Coorg vs Chikmagalur vs Araku: which to buy?
5 min read
Chikmagalur is India's classic arabica country, known for chocolatey, fruity and often experimental lots. Coorg grows huge amounts of both robusta and arabica and tends toward rich, spicy, full-bodied cups. Araku, in the Eastern Ghats, is smallholder arabica with a soft, sweet, gentle character.

Pick by how you drink
- Black pour-over and curious about experimental lots: start with Chikmagalur.
- Milk coffee, filter kaapi or strong espresso: Coorg, especially a robusta or a blend.
- Easy-drinking black coffee with a soft finish: Araku.
Tip: Roast style matters as much as origin. A light Coorg and a dark Chikmagalur can taste the reverse of what the table suggests.
