How much does specialty coffee cost in India?

5 min read

Prices vary with roast, process, origin and lot size, so the fairest comparison is price per 100 g. The live tables below show typical prices across the catalog right now. Washed and natural coffees are usually the value end, while experimental and micro lots cost more.

Indian specialty coffee is still good value by global standards, largely because it's grown, roasted and sold within the country. Prices change, so rather than quote numbers that go stale, the tables below are calculated live from the catalog.

Price by processing method

Carbonic maceration14₹376₹310–₹438
Barrel-aged44₹440₹340–₹533

Price per 100 g of beans or ground coffee, from 1,283 listings in the live catalog.

Processing is often the biggest price driver. Extra steps, controlled fermentation and small experimental batches all add cost.

Price by roast level

RoastCoffeesTypical (median)Middle half
Dark123₹225₹192–₹280
Medium-dark128₹242₹209–₹300
Medium291₹312₹248–₹400
Light192₹340₹260–₹400
Light-medium116₹356₹280–₹490

Price per 100 g of beans or ground coffee, from 1,283 listings in the live catalog.

Roast level on its own doesn't make coffee expensive, but lighter roasts are often used for higher grade lots meant to show off origin, which can pull the average up.

Regions with smaller output or strong single-estate reputations can command more. Explore them on the origins page.

How to compare fairly

  1. Convert every bag to price per 100 g.
  2. Add shipping, which can change the maths for a single small bag.
  3. Check the roast date. A cheap stale bag is poor value.
  4. Compare like with like: a blend against a blend, a micro lot against a micro lot.

Tip: The catalog's price filter uses rupees per 100 g, so you can browse by budget directly. Try coffees under ₹250 per 100 g.

Questions

What's a reasonable price for a first bag?

Anything in the lower half of the live price tables above is a good place to start. You don't need an expensive micro lot to taste the difference from supermarket coffee.

Are bigger bags cheaper?

Usually per 100 g, yes. Only buy bigger bags if you'll finish them within a month or so, or freeze portions.

Why do prices change so often?

Green coffee prices move with the global market, harvest size and currency. Roasters update prices as their costs change.
