Opened in 1902 on the first floor, it drew Franz Kafka, Max Brod and Karel Čapek, and Einstein came while teaching in Prague in 1911–12. After the 1948 coup its fittings were thrown out of the windows; it was rebuilt and reopened in 1992.

Josef Gočár designed it in 1912 inside the House of the Black Madonna, and it is the only cubist café in the world, down to the lamps and coat racks. It closed after about a decade and reopened, restored, in 2005.
