Historic

Kafana "?" (Znak Pitanja)

Historic · since 1823 · Kralja Petra 6, Stari Grad

Belgrade's oldest working kafana, in a house built in 1823 by Naum Ičko on the orders of Prince Miloš Obrenović. When church authorities objected to the tavern's name, the owner hung a question mark as a stopgap, and Belgraders liked it enough that it stayed.

Order: domaća (Serbian) coffee · rakija

💡 It sits across from the Orthodox Cathedral; order coffee with a rakija the way regulars do.

Specialty

D59B

Specialty · Kralja Petra, Dorćol

A pioneer of Belgrade's third wave, running as a micro-roastery for over a decade. The white-tiled bar also hosts weekend vinyl sessions and its own online radio; it was ranked #56 in the World's 100 Best Coffee Shops Europe list.

Order: V60 · cold brew

💡 Walk down Kralja Petra from Znak Pitanja to compare the city's oldest kafana with its specialty pioneer.

Hotel Beograd Café

Specialty · since 2020 · Balkanska 48, Savski Venac

Named after the original Hotel Beograd of 1937, the café opened in 2020 and began roasting in-house in 2022. Everything from pastries to hazelnut milk is made from scratch, and domestic coffee is on the menu next to espresso.

Order: espresso · domaća kafa · croissant

💡 Come for breakfast pastries; domestic coffee is on the menu if you want the local style.
