Tan Houw Sian founded Kopi Aroma in 1930. The family still ages green beans for years (8 for Arabica, 5 for Robusta) and roasts every morning in a German machine fired with rubber wood.

A café in a colonial-era building in Menteng that claims about 150 years of family coffee-roasting experience. It has long been a meeting place for artists, writers, diplomats and students.

Ho Kong Djie moved from Bangka to Belitung during the Japanese occupation and opened this coffee shop in 1943. The original still has its old interior and serves his blend of Sumatran Arabica and Javanese Robusta.

Lik Man's street stall near Tugu station is where kopi joss was invented. Unable to make the boiled kopi kothok his railway customers asked for, he dropped burning charcoal into brewed coffee instead, and the customers named it kopi joss.
