Fredrik Edvard Ekberg founded it in 1852, making it the oldest café still operating in Finland; it moved to Bulevardi in 1915. Napoleon cake, Krapfen and Runeberg torte have been on the counter since the 19th century.

Karl Fazer and his wife Berta opened a French-Russian confectionery at Kluuvikatu 3 on 17 September 1891, the start of the Fazer company. The café still trades at the same address.
