Armenian immigrant Khachik Madikians opened it in 1927, and it became a meeting place for writers such as Sadegh Hedayat, Forugh Farrokhzad and Jalal Al-e-Ahmad. It was listed as a national monument in 2002, which saved it from demolition in 2015.
